Health Insurance Information

Many international students get Medical Insurance coverage from India for at least 1 month. This is to cover them against any illness or unforeseen circumstances while their travel to the US or during the first few weeks of their stay in the United States (until you have signed-up for permanent medical coverage). Companies such as Bajaj Alliance and New India Insurance provide good insurance coverage especially for US Travel.

It is extremely important that you have a Health Insurance while your stay in the United States. Though we recommend OU Health Insurance which one also get Health Insurance from other companies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield (http://www.bcbs.com).

One Million Dollar Plan Coverage (Plan I)

50K Plan Coverage (Plan II)

Please visit http://www.ou.edu/ohr/shp/index.html#4 for more details

The cost for "Plan II" is automatically billed to the student's account by the Office of the Bursar. International students may upgrade to "Plan I" or add dependents to either Plan, but the additional cost must be paid at the time of enrollment. This added coverage cannot be billed. No benefits will be available until complete payment is received. International students may waive coverage by providing proof of coverage under another qualified health insurance plan. Proof of continuing coverage must be presented to the Student Health Plan Office by the end of the open enrollment period each semester. A brochure explaining insurance waiver guidelines can be obtained from the Student Health Plan Office or the Office for International Student Services.
